Graduation Project: Predictive cost model for omnichannel retail

Job location

Amsterdam; Zoetermeer

Job description

We work with a retail company that offers their products to customers with a variety of services (e.g. delivery) and a variety of sales and fulfillment channels. In the past few years, we have worked on developing a cost allocation solution that is able to present as-is insights in the cost performance of these sales channels and ways of fulfilling the orders. In the next phase we are interested to add predictive functionalities as well, to answer questions such as:

–       What would be the impact on costs if we operate a different supply chain setup?

–       What is the impact of sales forecasts on the bottom-line performance?

These questions support taking appropriate investment and steering decisions.

To answer these questions, we need a cost prediction scenario model that captures the relationships between the input variables (e.g. sales, network structure, etc.) and the cost outcomes. There is a lot of historical data available that could be helpful in defining such a model.

In this project, you will be expected to do a literature review and identify suitable cost prediction methods. The impact of recent global crises on the historical data is a factor that needs to be considered.
